The Texas Motor Speedway was once considered to be the fastest non-restrictor plate race on the NASCAR tour with qualifying speeds in excess of 192 mph and corner entry speeds of over 200 mph. Brian Vickers holds the record for the fastest qualifying time at 196.235 mph. Texas Motor Speedway was the first track to install a different type lap counter, one that counts the laps remaining and also the laps that have been run.
The Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas, is a quad oval-track is banked 24 degrees in turns and is 1.5 miles in circumference. Opening in 1996, the Texas Motor Speedway boasts a seating capacity of 212,585. This 9 turn superspeedway is very similar to Lowe’s Motor Speedway (formerly Charlotte Motor Speedway) and Atlanta Motor Speedway. All three tracks are owned by Speedway Motor Sports. (Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, Tennessee is also owned by Speedway Motor Sports.) Track capacity is 212,585 people.
2010 Samsung 500 Results
On a bad knee and all, Denny Hamlin prevailed as the winner of the 2010 Samsung Mobile 500 from Texas Motor Speedway on Monday 19th in the afternoon. Hamlin wasn’t in contention until late in the race when a crash set up a final sprint to the finish with 12 laps remaining. That is where Hamlin got to the front and held off Jimmie Johnson for the victory. Johnson finished second.
It was Hamlin second win in his last three races and pushes Hamlin up seven spots in the standings to 11th place, 275 points behind Johnson for the lead.
2009 Samsung 500 Winner
Jeff Gordon has ended the longest winless drought of his career, beating Hendrick Motorsports teammate Jimmie Johnson to finally win at Texas Speedway. Jeff Gordon won for the first time in 48 races with his victory at the 1.5-mile, high-banked Texas Motor Speedway, one of only two active tracks where the four-time Cup champion had never won a race.
