The unique racetrack design makes the Toyota/Save Mart 350 a conversational item as it is under debate as to whether it is a good or bad course. Within the race itself, you will find some drivers that are not typical of NASCAR as this is a popular event for road course drivers.
The Toyota/Save Mart 350 is one of only two Sprint Cup races run on a non-oval track. With 10 turns over 1.99 miles of track, this is one of the more unique races on the circuit.
Originally known as the Banquet 300, the race was held for the first time in 1989 as the replacement for the Budweiser 400 at the old Riverside International Raceway in Riverside, California. Since then the Toyota/SaveMart 350 has undergone multiple name and length changes over the years.
Over the years, the track as well as the race itself has undergone many changes in rules and also how the track was run. History was made in 1991 when Ricky Rudd, who came in first place, was sent back to second place for hitting Davey Allison on purpose. Allison became the winner for that year because of the decision. Over the next few years, the course would change to meet the needs of NASCAR and the length would be shortened and turns would be eliminated and then added again. Fox broadcast the race until the year 2006 when TNT took their place.
NASCAR Toyota Savemart 350 Results and Winners
2011 Toyota Savemart 350 Race Winner
Kurt Busch wins 2011 Toyota Savemart 350 Race at Infineon Raceway. Busch’s 23rd Cup win, it was also his first win since his Coca Cola 600 victory in 2010, breaking a 38 race winless streak.
2010 Toyota Savemart 350 Race Winner
The 2010 Toyota/Save Mart 350 was full of surprises as Marcos Ambrose gave the race away to Jimmie Johnson on a late restart.
Ambrose stalled his car (trying to save fuel) and was unable to keep moving, and came to a complete stop. Even though he was able to restart his car, under NASCAR rules you have to keep moving to regain position; therefore, Ambrose had to restart in seventh and didn’t have enough laps left to regain the positions he lost and finished sixth.
2009 Toyota Savemart 350 Winner: David Reutimann
Kasey Kahne reached a couple of milestones in the 2009 Toyota/SaveMart 350 – posting his very first road-course win, while getting team-owner Richard Petty's team into the Winner's Circle for the first time since 1999.
