Held annually at
one of the fastest race tracks on the Sprint Cup
circuit, the Atlanta Motor Speedway, the Kobalt
Tools 500 has provided NASCAR fans with a
history of exciting racing and thrilling
finishes.
The Atlanta Motor
Speedway is a 1.54 mile quad-oval which includes
24 degrees of banking in each of the turns.
Between the track’s high banking and the fact
that the Kobalt 500 is not a restrictor plate
race, the combination results in higher average
speeds here in Atlanta than at even the faster
super speedways in Daytona and Talladega.
When the Atlanta Motor Speedway, which was
originally the Atlanta International Raceway,
made it's first NASCAR debut in 1960, it was the
seventh paved speedway that was more than a mile
that would host a cup race. Currently only three
of the original seven are still running for
NASCAR, Daytona International, Lowe's Motor
Speedway, and Darlington Raceway.
NASCAR betting odds - In 2009, Kurt Busch took
the checkered flag in NASCAR odds. Busch led 234
of 330 laps in the Kobalt Tools 500, surviving a
couple of scrapes with the wall and a late
caution to pull away to win the Sprint Cup race
by 0.332 of a second over Jeff Gordon.
As you consider NASCAR odds you may want to
remember that the early season results don’t
mean much in Atlanta. Just because a driver won
in Daytona or California does not mean they will
do well in NASCAR betting odds in Atlanta. The
track is different, the atmosphere is different
and there are few guarantees in NASCAR odds in
Atlanta.
In 2008, Kobalt Tools 500 saw Toyota make
history when, for the very first time since
1954, a foreign auto maker was victorious in a
NASCAR stock car race. Kyle Busch raced to
victory in his Toyota after Carl Edwards, who
had dominated nearly the entire race, had to pit
once his car began smoking.
