NASCAR Sprint Cup Series had a brand new racing event at Kansas Speedway in 2011. This new race was first known as the STP 400. It has changed sponsors and names through the years, and it is the first of two NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races at this track. Now known as the KC Masterpiece 400 at Kansas Speedway.
A total of 17 series drivers have finished runner-up at Kansas Speedway, led by Kevin Harvick with three; followed by Kurt Busch, Carl Edwards, Kasey Kahne, Martin Truex Jr and Ryan Newman with two second-place finishes each. NASCAR Hall of Famer Rusty Wallace (five starts) leads the series in average finish at Kansas Speedway with an 8.200.

A total of 17 drivers in NASCAR national series history have their home state recorded as Kansas.
Of the 17 Kansas drivers, only two of them have won a NASCAR national series race; both have won in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series.

This Kansas race has had 14 Monster Energy Series drivers winners at Kansas Speedway, led by Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson with three victories each: Gordon (2001, 2002, 2014) and Johnson (2008, 2011, 2015).

2013 STP 400 Winner
Matt Kenseth wins the 2013 STP 400 at Kansas. Kenseth seized the lead when Ricky Stenhouse Jr. pitted under green and then held it the rest of the way after a late yellow flag. He fended off Kasey Kahne by seconds for his 26th career victory and second of the season.
2012 STP 400 Winner
Denny Hamlin wins 2012 STP 400 at Kansas Speedway. Hamlin held off Martin Truex Jr. over the final 30 laps. Jimmie Johnson finished third, followed by Roush Fenway Racing teammates Matt Kenseth and Greg Biffle. Truex moved into second place in the Sprint Cup series standings behind Biffle, who leads by 15 points.
