The Carfax 400 has been referred to previously as: the Miller High Life 400, the Miller Genuine Draft 400, the K-Mart 400, and in 2005, the Batman Begins 400. The excitement of a car race, however, remains the same.
The CARFAX 400 is one of the two NASCAR Sprint Cup races run at one of the sport’s fastest ovals, Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Michigan. Although there is nothing particularly unique about the configuration of Michigan International, the two-mile superspeedway allows drivers to easily exceed 200 mph and that makes for some of the most thrilling races on the NASCAR schedule.
Michigan International Speedway opened back in 1967 and has a capacity of nearly 140,000. Michigan International is known not only for being a fast track, but also one that occasionally produces spectacular crashes. Back in ’03, Kurt Busch and Todd Bodine hit the wall in turn 2 and ended up in a fiery crash, but thankfully both drivers walked away from it with no injuries.
Carfax 400 (3M Performance 400) is the final NASCAR race of the season held at the Michigan International Speedway located in Brooklyn, Michigan. This race came into being in 1969 when it was run at a length of 600 miles. It was dropped to a 400 mile race soon after.
Kevin Harvick showed championship strength in winning the 2010 Carfax 400 at Michigan International Speedway. Harvick becomes the first driver to secure a spot in the 10-race ‘Chase for the Championship. He currently holds a 293-point lead over second place Jeff Gordon with three races to go before the Chase.
2009 CARFAX 400 Race Winner
Vickers, driving for Red Bull Racing, overtook Mark Martin late in qualifying at Michigan International Speedway on Friday and will start first in Sunday’s CARFAX 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup race. Vickers ran a blistering lap of 187.242 m.p.h. in his No. 83 Red Bull Toyota to beat Martin, who ran 187.013 in his No 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet.
